The Fairly Odd Parents Season Two: Reviews, Ratings, and Recommendations

Created by Butch Hartman, the show is about the adventures of young Timmy Turner who is seemingly constantly down on his luck but has his life changed when he meets his two godparents who are able to grant him wishes.

This is the Recap page for The Fairly OddParents!, the second longest running Nicktoon as of 2021 (after SpongeBob SquarePants), which began in 2001 (unless you count the Oh Yeah! Cartoons pilot episodes, which puts the show's start year in 1998), and continued running for 16 years (or 19 years, if you count the aforementioned pilot shorts) until its end in 2017, centered on a luckless ten-year-old named Timmy Turner whose life dealing with negligent parents, uncaring teachers, bullies, an unrequited crush on popular girl Trixie Tang, and a deranged babysitter who tortures kids is made a little less miserable with two fairy godparents: a green-haired, buffoonish Momma's Boy named Cosmo and a nagging, pink-haired daughter of a fairy mobster named Wanda (later, they'd be joined by their infant son named Poof, a Fairy dog named Sparky, and a human girl named Chloe Carmichael).

The Fairly Odd Parents Season Two

The Fairly OddParents is a hyperactive animated series about a little boy named Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda. Running for ten seasons (from March 30, 2001 to July 26, 2017), it is the second longest-running scripted series in Nickelodeon's history, behind only SpongeBob SquarePants.note Nick News with Linda Ellerbee is the longest-running series overall, at 23 years.

As the series went on, additional characters were added to the main trio, to mixed reception: Cosmo and Wanda's fairy baby Poof in the sixth season, their talking fairy dog Sparky in the ninth, and Timmy's new neighbor Chloe in the tenth season, whom he has to share Cosmo and Wanda with.

Grade-school viewers love watching Timmy (voiced by Tara Strong) -- a normal little boy trying to grow up and figure out the world -- wish for crazy things that he imagines will make his life more bearable. Timmy's fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda (Daran Norris and Susanne Blakeslee), grant his wishes, but Timmy inevitably wants life back to normal again. Timmy usually thinks he's wishing for something useful or helpful, such as a world without sleep or a cool job for his dad. The results of his wishes help Timmy make discoveries such as why kids need sleep or why just being Timmy's dad is a cool enough job.

The original Fairly OddParents series aired on Nickelodeon from 2001 to 2017. It follows 10-year-old Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents, Wanda and Cosmo. Making the switch to live-action, Fairly Odder begins with Timmy entrusting the fairies to his 13-year-old cousin Viv Turner (Audrey Grace Marshall).

Per Entertainment Weekly, the series follows Viv as she moves to the town of Dimmsdale when her dad, Ty (Ryan-James Hatanaka), decides to reunite with his high school sweetheart, Rachel Raskin (Laura Bell Bundy). Rachel's son, Roy (Tyler Wladis), sees Timmy bestowing his fairy godparents on Viv as she deals with the change in her life, and now the two kids agree to take turns making wishes.

In 2011, there was a live-action movie, A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!, which starred Drake Bell as Timmy Turner in his early 20s. His animated godparents were animated with 3-D CGI while they retain their classic art style in this new series on Paramount+.

Fairly OddParents aired on Nickelodeon from 2001-2017 with a story about 10-year-old Timmy, who goes on magical adventures with his goofball fairy godparents, Wanda and Cosmo. In the Fairly Odder sequel series, which takes plays years after the original ended, Timmy entrusts his 13-year-old cousin Viv Turner (Audrey Grace Marshall) with his fairies.

The premise of the series focuses on Viv as she moves to the town of Dimmsdale when her dad, Ty (Ryan-James Hatanaka), decides to reunite with his high school sweetheart, Rachel Raskin (Laura Bell Bundy). Rachel's son, Roy (Tyler Wladis), sees Timmy bestowing his fairy godparents on Viv as she deals with the change in her life, and now the two kids agree to take turns making wishes.

The Fairly OddParents was one of Nickelodeon's longest-running animated shows. Its story involved 10-year-old Timmy Turner who, due to having neglectful parents and an abusive babysitter, gets Fairy GodParents named Cosmo and Wanda, who can grant virtually any wish. With their magic, Timmy gets into all sorts of shenanigans.

Timmy's hijinks were always a hoot to watch growing up. Unfortunately, there are certain flaws that become evident upon watching the show through the eyes of an adult. No show is perfect, but when it comes to Fairly Oddparents, some of the magic has gone away over the years.

The episode is downright cruel in conveying everyone's happiness without Timmy. To make matters worse, it implies that Timmy's mere existence led everyone down unfortunate paths. While creator Butch Hartman has apologized for this episode, with all the retcons in the later seasons, this could have used one.

In the show's early seasons, Timmy only had Cosmo and Wanda as far as magical connections were concerned. Most of the episodes focused on them helping Timmy through typical everyday problems such as school, relationships, and friendships.

In the show's later seasons, however, Timmy had a fairy brother, Poof, and eventually a fairy dog, Sparky. And as the episodes continued with these characters, the less it focused on relatable issues with the various secondary characters audiences grew to love, and the more it focused on shenanigans involving Poof and Sparky. Most episodes would have more to do with magic hijinks that don't connect with Timmy's personal life, which would eventually be all he had when he grew older.

A good chunk of the reason why Timmy has fairies in the first place is that his parents hardly pay any attention to him. They consistently leave Timmy with an evil babysitter, Vicky, while they go off to have fun. All the while, they are oblivious to the torture she puts him through.

This problem worsens when, time and again, Timmy's parents blame him for Vicky's messes. They hardly understand their son's wants and needs. The episode detailing Crocker's backstory implies they were expecting a girl and were upset when it turned out to be a boy. And at one point, they even imply that their dreams died with his birth. This is all a little much for a kid's show.

The series went on, however, but with nothing building towards this future. Timmy stayed ten years old forever. And as more characters kept coming into Timmy's fairy life, the more it strayed from Timmy building himself a solid future. The last season added Chloe Carmichael, a girl for Timmy to share his fairies with, who didn't give way to Timmy's development in either of his lives.

Most fans of The Fairly OddParents agree that there is a steep decline in quality during the latter half of the show. They point to things like the change in animation style, comedy, and (most importantly) constant introduction of new characters. Similar to other long-running Nicktoons like Rugrats, the OddParents formula starts to get stale a few seasons in, and in order to solve this problem, the later seasons constantly add new main characters in an attempt to spice up the show. The fruits of this practice are characters like Sparky the fairy dog, Chloe Carmichael, and the baby fairy who started it all, Poof. The introduction of Poof in season 6 is what fans most often point to as the beginning of the end for the show, so carrying Poof over to the reboot will probably bring over many of these same problems.

The main issue fans have with Poof is that he is not a character, but a plot device. Many episodes revolve around Timmy, Cosmo, and Wanda having to resolve whatever mess Poof has created. Poof is what causes the Flanderization seen throughout the series, a term named after Simpsons character Ned Flanders that is used to describe the phenomenon of characters transforming from complex and three-dimensional into flat and one-note. These issues can be clearly seen in the later seasons of the show, where sometimes Poof is completely absent unless they have an explicit purpose in the episode's plot. He also signals a change in the show's humor, going from clever setups and punchlines to cute and random humor. Poof is nearly pointless in the original series, only designed to revive the show and sell toys, and adding this failed defibrillator of a character to Fairly Odder would only be doing the show a disservice.

The series originated from shorts on the animation showcase, Oh Yeah! Cartoons, airing from 1998 to 2001. It was later picked up as a series due to its popularity. Originally, it ended in 2006 totaling five seasons, but resumed production in 2007. It is produced by Frederator Studios, Nickelodeon Animation Studios and, as of season 6, Billionfold Inc. 2ff7e9595c
